History:
Davey was born “Johannes Nathaniel St-David”, the youngest son of Governor “Benjamin St-David”. In 1693 Benjamin’s rule over the Prince Rupert Islands was ended in a daring raid by infamous privateer Samuel Broadgrave, AKA, “Captain D’Athsed”. During the raid the young Johannes, until now a shy and rather private boy, beat several of D’Athsed’s men to death using nothing but two short lengths of Canadian hickory.
Even as he was hauled away by the remaining crew, the boy continued to pummel them with his newly unleashed rage. Eventually he was imprisoned deep in the ship’s bilge, the only place that D’Athsed and his crew would be able to withstand the constant banging.
For months the boy thrashed away in the dark, stinking bilge, with only broken barrels and rotting fish for company. Time and oily bilge water devoured his sanity until little was left of mild mannered young Johannes and as the years trickled by, the maniacal beast Davey Blast-Bastard crept to the surface and sought his bloody vengeance.
Using only what he found in his prison he constructed his mighty weapon. By stretching fish skin (to get the scales right) over the splintered remains of a rum barrel he crafted his twisted tool of destruction to the exact specifications in his revenge-addled mind...
...and at midnight on the 21st August 1695 the tapping from below ceased.
The hull imploded. The lower decks were wasted. Doors were blown off their hinges as Davey Blast-Bastard paradiddled, dragged and flamed his way to the main deck. He played with such speed and ferocity that mere flesh couldn’t withstand the rhythm. Sailor’s torsos were ripped asunder, skin torn and blistered as if taking direct hits from a carronade and neither cutlass nor pistol could stand against the mighty drum. D’Athsed put up a gallant defence, playing ancient duelling riffs upon a traditional Bodhran, but even that was not enough to counter the devastating pulse coming from Blast Bastards massive Surdo.
Soon he stood alone on the deck of the ruined ship. His vengeance was complete, but nothing but speed and rhythm remained in his heart. Davey Blast-Bastard set off for new shores in a row-boat. Days alone passed in a haze and eventually he blew into port. Within a few hours he had signed on with the most violent crew he could find and had, once again, set out to sea.
Although his many travels spanned the entire world, he has never yet returned to his old home. The boy “Johannes Nathaniel St-David” was long dead; the beast Davey Blast-Bastard was here to stay
How he met up with the scallywags who would become “Skull Branded Pirates” is another story. One of blood, of adventure and of booty… but it shall be saved for another time.
